Blog To Social - A Wordpress Plugin Review

As a blogger, you may have had several drafts / unpublished posts in your Wordpress editor and waiting for the right time to publish it . This should be done correctly, so as to ensure maximum visibility, more traffic and subsequently more impressions. If you had a blog marketing plugin, it would have made your life simpler for you. This post is about one such discovery of a wordpress plugin.

What is Social Media Marketing?

It's not sufficient that you just publish the post alone. The post should be known to the public , your social media followers, Facebook friends and other group pages that can invite people to read the same. Only when the engagement of the post becomes higher, the blog can get more traffic and therefore more revenue. The process of promoting your blog and blog post through various social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram is known as social media marketing
Not everyone can master this technique, as you certainly need a knack and an uncanny ability to know to market the right content, to the right audience at the right audience.

Source :

Strategic Timing for Social Media Promotion

Promoting a post at odd hours or posting in irrelevant groups can never bring the blog traffic, that you always desired. Irrespective of how good the post is, unless its customized as per the channel and target audience , the blog post can just subside into one of the dark corners of the web, along with millions of other irrelevant content. Ever wondered why, some people seem to post only at specified hours of the day, like Sunday noons, late evening on a Saturday etc. This is when 80% of the internet users are quite active on the web and there's more likely chance

Managing Blog Traffic Sources the easy Way

Without any doubt, social media is the key source of traffic to your blog/website ,apart from the traditional google search results. So its critical that you handle your biggest traffic source in the right way. However this could pose as a challenge, as you may not have the right resources, enough bandwidth and pertinent information to manage all your blog posts. Sharing it across different social media networks, customizing them as per user preference is another herculean task that can really consume a lot of time. Reason being , every social media site is different

  • Facebook is about sharing status, pictures, videos and engaging through comments, likes and emojis (either through self profile or FB page)
  • Twitter is about posting your blog link along with a short description not exceeding 140 characters
  • Pinterest is about sharing a blog link in the form of a board pin image that can be re-pinned across other's walls
The list goes on... So unless you have the correct social media strategy to implement the right mix of communication and engagement for your blog post promotion, it can be a significant loss of opportunity. This is where a plugin called Blog2Social comes in and basically does everything for you.

All scheduling and reposting times can be done in the easy click of a button through the plugin settings
  •  Custom Posting Formats : As I had mentioned earlier, every social media channel follows its own content rules and formats. The plugin offers pre-defined formats(including #,@ and comments) for each channel and can be edited within the one page editor. It even offers custom formats to share pictures with hashtags and mentions across Facebook, Twitter etc.

The Great Indian Festival - A Kebab Fest at copper chimney, Chennai

As a vegetarian , i've always had only limited options when it came to variety in foods. You end up ordering pretty much the same thing and probably be bored out of it . So I had my expectations pretty high, when I received an exclusive invite to attend the Kebab festival in Copper Chimney and got to know they had a fair share of vegetarian items as well in the menu

The menu for the Kebab fest was as follows

As a guest, I was given a mini platter of all the things in the fest. What worked for me was the variety, an interesting mix of spice and taste and of course the presence of so many veg options in Kebabs alone. Additionally the presentation was really well done , which to me is an most important criteria as well.

Veg Kebab Platter
True to their name, everything served was downright delicious.  The garlic naan in particular was downright soft and done just right. The kebab platter, for which the fest was centered around, was the highlight however. Be it the paneer , alu fry and the cutlet, along with a spicy mint chutney, it was definitely relishing and got finished in minutes

The 4 course meal consisted of : a Kebab platter as starter , a thick creamy tomato soup ,a unsweetened orange juice,  a bread basket including Laccha Paratha, Garlic Naans and Rotis, accompanied with some delcious Dhal Makani and Paneer Subji.

The final course was a delicious vanilla and chocolate ice cream laden with nuts.

Great Indian Kebab Festival is happening in Copper Chimney in both of their locations , namely Gopalpuram(near Seras) and Taramani (near Ascendas IT Park) till Apr 15th. Go try it once :)

Tata Tigor Styleback Review - An Impact Design carrying Tata's Success Baton

You probably may have read about my previous review of the Tata Hexa, late last year. The Hexa was a great step forward in the makeover of a classic automobile brand, Tata Motors. It was completely refreshing to see the dazzling SUV from the Tata Stable and certainly turned, quite a few heads.Barely four months later, I received an invite, as part of a few selected bloggers to attend the launch of a new car called Tigor. Tata Motors seems to surprise the world with yet another stunner, this time in the sedan segment, namely Tata Tigor. So how does the new car fare? Here goes my two cents on the Tata Tigor Review.

(A Black & White Image of the Tigor During Launch)

First Impressions

It's clearly visible that Tata Motors is moving out of the "utility" car segment (Indica/Zest etc) to a "styleback" segment,as they call it . Coming to the Tigor, the front portion of the car gives you the modern sedan look, esp with a stretched out design fitted with dual colour bumpers, twin barrel headlamps and front grille.

The rear portion of the Tigor, on the other hand takes everyone by surprise.  A design, that you generally do not spot on a sedan, Tigor comes with extended boot space and even minor spoilers with sparkling LED stop lights that really adds a nice touch to it.

Tata Motors had announced that it'll be available on the following colors : Sunburst Orange, Pearlescent white, Platinum Silver, Striker Blue, Berry Red, and Espresso Brown.

Shot during the Tigor Launch & Presentation

Key Competition

The sedan segment has replaced the hatchback segment,as the most competitive segment to compete in. Tigor, nevertheless has serious competition including Honda Amaze, Hyundai i20 / Hyundai Xcent and also the Suzuki Swift/Swift Dzire.  Additionally, it faces a bit of a competition from its smaller hatchback predecessor Tata Tiago. Some of the cars mentioned here may not be in the same segment or price category, but from my perception falls within the same consideration set of a user. With some tight pricing and aggressive marketing , this could be a successive run for Tata Motors, if they deal the cards right.

Target Audience of Tigor

The target audience, as Mr.Vivek Srivatsa put it is mainly focussed at an upgrader. A young professional who wants to upgrade to a bigger car or a status seeker or even someone socially active and needs a car for both city use and an occasional highway drive. This is an interesting segment to cater to, given the fact that Indian market has a sizeable chunk of buyers in that area.

Technical Specifications of Tata Tigor

Petrol Engine : Fitted with a 1.2 Litre Revotron Engine and capacity of 1199 cc , Tigor comes with a torque of 114 Nm @ 3500 RPM  and horsepower of 85PS @ 6000 RPM .
Diesel Engine : The Diesel variant comes with a Revotorq 1.05L 3-cylinder, horsepower of 70PS @ 4000RPM and max torque of 140 Nm @ 1800-3000 RPM

Petrol and diesel manual versions have been rolled out initially and heard that they are shortly coming up with an automatic version as well.

Feature Specs of Tigor

The Tigor Syleback carries some impressive specs and features that really gives a competitive edge over its competitors, mainly the i20 Grand and Amaze. Almost resembling a derivation from the Tiago, Tigor however scores its major points in the following features

  •  An Impact design that really stands out, true to its nickname, a "Styleback"
  • A completely modified dazzling rear that can even give a coupe styled car, a run for its money
  • A massive boot space of 419L achieved through a bigger wheel base of 2450mm and a 4-link  mechanism instead of the usual hinge system

  • The above wider wheel base gives a longer leg room to the rear passengers and adds immensely to comfort

  • Convertible rear middle seat to a hand-rest/coffee cup holder, adding to both comfort and stylishness (Something I totally loved and miss in 90% of cars)
  • Touchscreen display with added navigation system and a 8 speaker Harman sound system

  • Dual Airbags, Anti Lock Braking System (ABS), Electric Power Assist and Corner Control
  • Improved Lighting with Twin Barrel Head Lamps and LED Stop lamps on the rear spoilers.

      Drive Experience

The first thing I noticed about the Tigor is its quick acceleration. It raced upto to 60 km/hr in a matter of seconds and effortlessly glided even at high speeds. My drive was from Delhi Airport all the way upto Gurgaon Heritage car museum. The route involved a fair mix of city roads, highways and of course broken pothole filled roads, typical to any Indian city. In almost all terrains, the car managed to handle itself pretty easily and there was almost no discomfort even in bumps and large speed breakers. To put it simply, it was so damn easier to drive the Tigor.

Another highlight of the drive experience was the touchscreen display, which connected to the phone's GPS and gave me a smooth navigation system . I was able to shuffle to the music menu by just a flick of my fingers and switch back to GPS whenever needed. (the touchscreen navigation is available only in higher end variants of the Tigor). The Harman sound system added a nice touch to the overall jouney with some impressive sound effects.

Much surprisingly, I didn't have the  strain or tiredness that follows a 150+ km journey even on a hot Delhi summer day and that totally speaks volumes on the Tigo. Our blogger drive from Delhi till Gurgaon involved 3-4 people/car and this seemed to have absolutely no impact on the car's performance, handling and most importantly pickup.

Tigor could be launched anywhere between 5-7 Lakhs with the different variants. Probably anywhere between 50K to less than a lakh, more than the Tiago should fit right into this segment. The price is not officially launched as yet .

      My Verdict

The Tigor is an impressive launch from the Tata stable and more of a bold move to take head on its competitors with an impact styleback design. The bold play can strongly work on their favour if they can keep the prices low (given this is a highly price competitive segment).

The large rear seating space,417L boot space , the unique silhouette and the overall design can add to its strong contention. The only thing I feel Tigor seems to miss is a powerful colour like an Intense Black or a Midnight Blue (which the Hexa really pulled it off). Though I could currently settle for the Striker Blue which the Tigor has.

The Rich Labourer - Book Review

Having worked on several tough projects, I have realized that most of the time goes in defining the central problem statement and finding an appropriate solution for it. Only 20 % of the remaining time goes in actually implementing it . During the course of this process, how the requirements and problem statement has seen so many changes and revisions that it looks completely different from where you started. Giving this flow a structure with a detailed list of steps can help immensely in terms of effort, time and money.A book called "The Rich Labourer" seems to be doing exactly that.

The Rich Labourer, a book , written by Mr.Parthajeet Sarma (Co-authored by Sibani Sarma) , goes about explaining a simple path that helps you to find solutions, be it for a person or organization or the society as a whole. A management cum self help book, this is a perfect short recipe, especially those who want to arrive at finding solutions in the quickest way possible. Some may have unrealistic demands in a shoestring budget. Sometimes the requirement would be for a innovative, robust , reliable solution offering every feature without compromising on quality. Yet one would not have even sufficient funds to meet half of it. So where do you draw the line in such cases?

The Rich Labourer book is a breezy read with simple terminologies that helps to find a solution using a unique 3-Step path. This approach is called the  3P method ( Probe , Ponder and Prove). This book takes on fictional examples ( On real life happenings) and goes about explaining how the character in the book, deals with the problem in hand, goes about applying the 3P method to arrive at a feasible solution while driving innovation for the organization she's employed in.

I was able to spot some interesting management concepts listed in easy steps, which can immensely individuals in corporate settings plan their approach for any problem at hand. One of them was the rapid prototyping technique. Rapid prototyping is used pretty much in most product oriented companies. They have the need to test the idea of a product before it even comes to the market and for this, there are several factors in play. The price, scalability, amount of customization are some of the things you need to wonder while doing so. The Rapid prototyping technique, explained in the book helps in saving time, money , minimizes design flaws and quite importantly gives a tangible shape to the overall concept

Interestingly the book itself seems to follow some of the concepts mentioned in it. The book I had received is a first edition and based on reviews and feedback would be revised and edited with added content.

A Guide to buy the Perfect Air Conditioner & Top 5 AC Brands in India

A Guide to buy the Perfect Air Conditioner & Top 5 AC Brands in India

Year after year, the brutality of summer seems to be even more harder,as the temperatures soar past well above the 40C. Some interior cities in India like Delhi, Vellore, Trichy even sees the mercury soaring at 50C on a few days. It is humanely impossible to withstand such temperatures, that too for the entire duration of summer lasting well over 3-4 months. Even stepping out for few minutes seems to be a major ordeal,as you are literally burnt by the heat. The only saving grace are Air Conditioners that seems to bring the room temperature down to the low 20's. I was on the lookout for an Air conditioner too since the past month. This was after my 5 year old A/C seems to keep my room more hotter than the normal room temperature. Hence this post on Top 5 AC Brands India for a better insight on the same

Choosing the right air conditioner can be very tricky and not as easy as it seems to be. There are so many factors to weigh in and price is just one of the many factors you should weigh about. The price of air conditioners has seen a sharp increase in the past few years while the durability/quality has seen a standard decline

Some of the factors you need to look into , while choosing a A/C
      • Type : Split A/C or a Window A/c  ( Depending on the location of the room and purpose , you could choose either among the two). Window A/C has relatively lesser cooling than a Split A/C but far cheaper and more long lasting than a Split.
      • Capacity : The most important factor is to choose a AC that can serve the entire square footage of the room/hall ( be it a 1 Ton or a 1.5 Ton A/C)
      • Condenser : A copper condenser based A/C , has  relatively higher cooling than a silver one. So watch out for this one as well.
      • Star Rating : Get to choose between a 3 star and a 5 Star AC(for 4-5K extra) to improve the energy quotient of your AC
      • Brand : The most important factor is the brand you need to choose to make it a worthwhile purchase

My intensive research to buy an A/C for myself is also the reason why I felt the need to blog about it and give an unbiased, original opinion from my side.

      Top 5 AC Brands India

Having used almost 5-6 brands till date in different capacities and types, I have prioritized a list of A/C's that may be worth considering (in no specific order nor preference)

The most expensive of the lot , Hitachi seems to be the top of the mind on everyone's mind when it comes to premium air conditioners. With very effective cooling technologies, and having owned a split & a window AC from Hitachi, I could definitely give a thumbs up for Hitachi. However mind that it's 4-5 K costlier than other brands and their customer service rating has taken a beating off-late.

Voltas was the first air conditioner I have ever bought and it has really sustained me even in tough summers. An Indian brand out of the lot, they have improved dramatically on features, still managed to keep it at a low price and improved on their customer service as well.

Do check out here and compare the lowest price of Voltas AC.

      Samsung :

A silent underdog in the Air conditioner market, this is a great recommendation for someone who wants a reliable brand with very good cooling and at a reasonable price. I currently use Samsung in my second room and the cooling sometimes is far better than even Hitachi. So definitely highly recommended from my side

      Carrier :

The guy who actually invented an air conditioner is called Carrier, and managed to create a great brand out of it. Carrier is one of those "silent" A/C's which can be sometimes slightly expensive but at the same time , gives a good run for its money. If you are not in the mood for a Hitachi , this could definitely be a great choice.

      BlueStar :

BlueStar seems to have a positive rating when it comes to air conditioners but seem to find a lot of tough competition in the consumer market. However they perform excellently when it comes to corporate sales . They generally have a high durability tag attached them and definitely in my top 5 AC brands in India.

What's your favourite brand of Air Conditioners? Do comment your options and reasons for the same.

      Colgate's Magical Space Adventure Pack

If there's something I strongly believe, its in the power of storytelling. The creative descriptions, the tone, the modulation, the characters, the plot and the twist , everything has to be woven together for a powerful storytelling. A storytelling, that can leave your audience gape in awe, shock in disbelief and rapt for attention as you unravel one plot after another. Creating an indelible mark in anyone's mind, its an important art that has to be cultivated right from the beginning. You make the children believe in everything , dream with no limits and that's where a creative story begins to form . Just try handing out a set of things to a kid.Within minutes, they begin to come up with a story so beautiful ,you could never even imagine how they managed to come up with such a thing. This aspect in them should be encouraged at the very least and make sure the magic is never lost.

This concept has been successfully introduced by Colgate who has come up with a creative magical pack in all their outer covers. These could be cut into individual pieces , each representing a space character or an object. As you guessed it, the central theme for all these characters is "Magical Space Adventure". This is a wonderful theme that could really encourage kids to put on their thinking caps and get going on a space story.

I promptly handed out my colgate packs to a few kids in neighbouring houses and asked them to come up with an interesting story that they could come up with . They began discussing among themselves and found to come up with a really crazy, funny and interesting story. They began incorporating all their famous characters they had seen in Cartoon Network and Pogo Channels inside the story of the magical space adventure.

The story revolved around how a group of kids who had won an international space quiz contest, were selected for a top secret space mission. They adorned huge space suits and given laser guns in case they come across any enemy in their space mission. Their rocket finally landed in a special unnanmed planet , after a long journey. The planet, had a dark red surface andminimal lighting that it received from the sun. From the rocket they brought out a space rover which used they used for exploring. As they began venturing, they were suddenly surrounded by weird shaped creatures, alias Aliens. These Aliens began talking in a gibberish language and gave them a strange look. As they slowly started approaching them, the space kids started to dazzle the lasers from the space guns at them. This almost blinded the aliens and within minutes these space kids hit the remaining aliens and captured one of the aliens, tied from from behind and put him in the spaceship.

They quickly began their departure, while the rest of the aliens started charging against them. The spaceship swiftly started its ascent and proceeded on to the next destination.  While it began cruising on its course, the space kids finally heaved a sigh of relief, called up the home base and spoke "Mission 1/n completed An Alien from Planet Neucloid has been captured. We are heading to the next planet to find one more. Awaiting further instructions from home base. Over"

Their story drew inspirations from movies, comic books, cartoon shows, yet it was wonderful that their creativity was still in full force and they applied common sense and whacky ideas to come up with a neat plot.

      Touchdown in Apollo

It's not often that I'm invited as one among selected bloggers by a leading hospital in the city for a mini tour around the campus and I certainly didn't miss this chance.. Apollo Hospitals, one of the top hospitals in the country (and also one among the top few in the world) , had invited selected bloggers for a mini orientation tour around their premises. This Apollo tour included a visit to various departments, how they functioned and also a meet and greet with some of the key personnel and doctors.

With an inherent fear of hospitals from childhood, I haven't quite ventured to hospitals much, apart from a rare visit to see a sick relative. So it's safe to say, that I was quite oblivious on their functioning and didn't really strive to understand the myriad complexities of their operations.

So the Apollo tour really gave me a fresh perspective on
      • What it is to run a hospital of this magnitude?
      • What are the security ops in play?
      • How is all the departments interconnected to provide a seamless service?
      • How do they stay ahead in Medical technology to offer advanced treatments
Having been awarded as one of the best hospitals in the country, there wasn't any lingering doubts on the quality of doctors, medical equipments and services they provide. This was testament to the fact that  only choice you always have, when everything else fails, is Apollo.

      Corporate Medical Checkups

I also got to learn about their "corporate medical checkup" package that allows you to get checked for most things in less than couple of hours . They also have a DNA health testing check, that allows them to safely predict the likelihood of a disease that may affect you at a later stage in life. This could be due to the hereditary genes and DNA's that may affect, despite leading a healthy lifestyle.(This is something I'm definitely planning to take up in the near future).

      The Apollo Tour

The blogger meetup included a rundown of their key departments including the Critical care units, Blood banks, the fully equipped Ambulance service, cath labs, advanced medical diagonostics and the physiotherapy units. What I saw were not just medical equipment, experienced doctors or facilities, but instead, an earnest attempt to provide outstanding medical service and an exceptional care to make lives better. Department after department, patients are different, but the story is the same. Patients with serious illness, broken bones, scarred faces or even life threatening diseases have approached Apollo and gone back to their old self once again, with a fresh start and a new lease of life. Yes, quality care comes at a price. But when it comes to health , no amount of money can compensate for a peaceful well being and you get the peace of mind here.

      The Physio Department

My tour to the Physio Department in Apollo Hospital was equally surprising. Half expecting to see just beds with physio trainers, instead I was faced with advanced robotic equipments, advanced body trackers and elliptical cycles that could rapidly improve momentum even on a sprained/fractured muscles. The technology here is simply amazing and I least expected that a robotics machine could actually even make a disabled walk.

If you're wondering what the above image represents, that's a detailed analysis of my foot and heel status. The doctors even advised the kind of shoes and soles I have to change to change my stance, which I had never known would be affecting my walking/running

The Apollo Heart & Cancer Campaign

Marketing in a medical field can be quite tricky. With strict rules against advertising set forth by the Advertising board, hospitals solely rely on a positive word of mouth and campaigning through limited channels. So a coordinated effort to maintain a positive image is critical, even to boost the public's confidence on a hospital. Their outreach program to fight cancer, raise awarness about preventing heart diseases has been termed a major success and well received by the general public.

A Brief Chat with the Chief Security Officer of Apollo

In short of a epiphany, the conversation with the chief of security in Apollo, Mr.Elango, an ex-Army guy made it an all the more worthy visit. One thing that struck me was his prudent efforts in the "Wear Helmet" campaign. Despite repeated efforts by the traffic police to make people wear helmets, it's been been not taken seriously. He shared that almost on a daily basis , the no of accident cases they encounter with serious head injuries is on the rise. Not surprisingly, every one of those cases are those with people who never bothered to wear a helmet. The perils of not spending 1000 on a mere helmet has now caused them an irreparable damage to their body and life as well. So if you are reading this, make it a point to never leave home without a helmet, if you are riding a two wheeler or even as a pillion.

      My Concluding Thoughts

After battling a tough 2 month period with the whole nation's focus on the hospital day and night, Apollo Hospital has successfully stood its solid ground and managed to come out of it in good shape. Despite the circling rumors and the various controversies/theories floating around , the belief/ confidence one has, on Apollo for quality medical treatment has stood firm.

To me personally, a hospital may excel in a lot of things, provide premium rooms with luxury services etc.. But ultimately what it boils down to is saving lives. Every patient who comes, when he's given full medical attention and ultimately saved, can make an incredible impact to several people around him. This is exactly what Apollo Hospitals stands for and manages to do most of the time. And that's why it all matters :)

Disclaimer : The opinion expressed in the above post are purely based on my personal, honest and unbaised views of this institution.
