A new Odd-Even Challenge

India is one of the few countries which is known for its extensive diversity, ethnicity, culture , diaspora and much more .Yet when we look into the finer aspects within the states, we might be startled at the rate of inequality that's been present across households.

Though there has been a social cry to bridge the gap between man and women, it still remains a distant dream .This is a situation, not just being witnessed in the rural areas and villages but even in the top metropolitan cities as well , where presumably the awareness is quite high

Despite the socio economic status of any given family, it’s an unwritten rule that the women of the household has the primarily responsibility of doing all the work in the house. This includes washing, cooking, cleaning and everything else around the household. The situation is quite grim especially in houses where the woman has to work as well as do all the household work. Irrespective of the hard work and stress in office, it’s expected of her to take care of house work as well

To combat such inequalities, Arial has kickstarted a campaign called LaundryGoesOddEven. Here they have managed to come up with an Odd Even calendar which will equally divide the work between the different people in the house (both men and women). It’s no longer the mother or wife to do all the work , but a fair split of work between the husband-wife or the mother and dad and sons.

I was fortunate to receive the Arial Matic Pack and as a social experiment tried the Odd-Even challenge put forth by Arial.

We setup a customized calendar that’ll clearly indicate who’ll be taking care of the work for any

given day while the other gets to take complete rest and be involved in any leisure activity.
To start with there were a few challenges, but as the days went by, it became a great system and quite effective too. The work got done faster, there was no blame game and each one was able to better plan for the days ahead.  In a way,a perfect work life balance was easily achieved with this house work scheduling and at the same time, I could see a much brighter glow on the clothes thanks to the Arial Matic power. There has been less fights, quarrels and far more happiness that the load balancing has been working quite effectively and shown a perfect example to others who wanted to try setting up this system in their house

My Ideal Yatra - A trip to Bangkok

An ideal vacation is something everyone dreams about all the time. It can't happen overnight, but rather needs meticulous planning and research to find the most perfect spot. The place should not have extreme weather ( too hot or too cold can be quite a dampener). Besides the travel costs is also a major factor while choosing the destination. It may be domestic or international, but it should be planned right from the beginning till the end to ensure it's executed perfectly.

Among all the places I've visited before, the most ideal vacation I've been to would be Thailand. I have visited several countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai etc . But nothing can come close to the beauty and serenity of Thailand. A country that offers plenty of things for so many people, every trip there will always turn out to be magical. Surprisingly, planning a trip to Thailand can be quite easy and much easier than other countries.

So to begin with , I logged into Yatra and searched for International Flights from Chennai to Thailand. I happened to find that Spicejet had the lowest fare for a night flight. This seemed perfect for me and a roundtrip costed me around 13K after the discount offered by Yatra, which to me was a great deal.

Post booking my flights, I quickly searched for good hotel deals in Bangkok that will be within the central area and also within my budget. I usually prefer 3 or 4 star hotels and to my great surprise I was able to find a crackling deal in one of the best hotels in that country. I searched for “Baiyoke Sky Hotel” which happened to be the tallest building in the country with 85 floors and panoramic views of the city and was able to book a Space Zone suite in that hotel for a very reasonable rate
Having booked my hotel and flight, I researched online for the top shopping malls, adventure spots and tourist locations that I should definitely see in Bangkok. Having made a huge list, I set upon my journey to the kingdom of elephants, Thailand.

My itinerary was as follows

(Picture Courtesy : Taken by me in my previous Bangkok trip)

Day 1: Arrived in Thailand. Was able to get a On-Arrival visa in hardly twenty minutes for a fee of 1000Baht (2000INR) .  Post which I took a taxi directly to the hotel from the airport, which was incidentally located in a prime shopping area called Pratunam.

After checking in , I headed on to the most visited spot in Bangkok : The Grand Palace and Temple of the Golden Buddha. Situated on the banks of the Chao Praya river, I boarded a metro and from there, took a Tuk-Tuk(Thailand’s version of the auto) . After exploring this beautiful place, I had lunch at a nearby Thai restaurant that luckily served good vegetarian food. Towards evening I headed straight to their biggest mall in the city, MBK. Nearly 7 floors high, this massive mall has almost everything from clothes, foods, accessories, movies, furniture, shoes and almost anything you can think of . It had more than 2000-3000 stores and it took more than 5-6 hours just to cover half of the mall.

Day 2 : One of the main attraction of Thailand is their famous Floating Market. From a local tourist agent, I booked a tour to the nearby Floating market called “Damnoen Sadak” Market which was around 120kms from Bangkok. After a 2 hour drive, we were given a short ride in the canals where we could see plenty of traders selling interesting handicrafts, fruits and vegetables in their respective boats. If you showed interest in any of them, they latched a hook on to your boat, and after a round of intensive bargaining, sold you their product. I also managed to get a beautiful Thai boat miniature and a chilled Coconut Ice cream, that was totally out of the world. This day long trip was very exhausting and by the time I reached Bangkok it was almost 4-5 PM.

After 3-4 hours of rest, I started to hit out the most famous clubs and partying zones of Bangkok. The atmosphere was absolutely electric and I just didn’t have any mood to come out of it, but with a long schedule ahead I managed to find my way back to the hotel quite late in the night.

Day 3: After a round of shopping, travelling and even partying, I tried to do something different. Once again I boarded the metro to Siam Paragon Station which was adjacent to Siam Paragon Mall. This housed the famous Underwater Aquarium and Madame Tussauds. The variety of fishes, sharks, whales and even the divers who managed to feed the sharks was something absolutely fascinating. After being mesmerized by the plethora of aqua life, I headed to a second round of shopping to the famous weekend market of Chatuchak. Luckily the hotel I stayed offered a free drop to this market. This mammoth weekend market had nearly 15,000 stalls and was easily the largest in the country, if not Asia. It was almost closing time when I managed to find my way out of this huge maze. It was indeed a herculean task to carry all the bags back to the hotel room

Day 4 : On my final day of the trip , I had two final things to do before I headed on to my return flight. The first off the list was to check out the various electronics and gadgets in a famous IT mall called Pantip Plaza. Thankfully it was just walking distance from my hotel and it took me less than 10 minutes to find this place. The mall had several hundred shops selling interesting gadgets and devices including mobile phones, laptops, selfies sticks, video games and other computer accessories. I managed to find some great deals here and it came with a round of intensive bargaining yet again.

The final place off my checklist was to get an authentic Thai massage. The massage gave me a completely relaxed feel and relieved me of all the pain and stress I had till then. It is indeed a highly recommended activity in Bangkok.

With just 4 hours left for the flight, I luckily found a taxi who was good enough to ply by the meter (Thailand’s taxis hardly ply by the meter and if you happen to find one don’t let go of it). My return flight back home was smooth and I just couldn’t stop to think, when my next trip will be

Leicester City - A living proof that anyone can win !

If I were to ask you to name just 1 player in any one of the top 2 teams of the current English Premier League seasons, you couldn't have guessed the players or even the teams for that matter

You dont need any Shiv Keras and other "so called" management gurus to define the path for success.
Just do a quick glance at the top 2 places in the EPL points table. It doesn't feature Man Utd or Chelsea or Arsenal or Man City. It features two teams that are usually relegated and never even qualified to play in the top 20.

The 2 teams are Leicester City who have won the title and second place is Tottenhamspur. This incredible victory cannot be said in a few lines but deserves an entire movie and case study. This is the perfect example of a team that rose from 20th to 1st.

Remember this is not like the stupid IPL where you can buy players in auctions and win by a fluke and need only 10 matches for a semi final berth. This requires you to play 38 games without even one reputed player and needs you to defeat the world's strongest teams including the ones mentioned above Their main striker James Vardy who was responsible for this victory was a player in the fifth division 3 years back. Not the main team or first or second. But the fifth division of Leicester!! This is a phenomenal victory that no statistics expert could have even remotely predicted. (One good thing about EPL is that most players are identified and groomed through city football clubs and finally enter their home team)

In fact Leicester is owned by a Thai Company and no where rich compared to any of the top spending clubs like United or Arsenal or Chelsea. They had funds barely to fund the players through tickets and some few sponsors. All the glory applies to Tottenhampsur as well, who were placed second with just a 7 point difference

The odds of Leicester winning by English bookmakers was 1-5000. Yes if you had paid 1 pound(100 Rs) at the beginning of the year, you could have made 5000 pounds today(Nearly 5 lakhs in India Rupees)

This is the kind of news you need to read to get you moving. Not some article of a paid media glorifying achievements of a state's party or even the ruling party of the country for that matter when there was actually none.

So go for it. Stop at nothing. Sometimes all it takes is a ridiculous amount of belief in yourself and you can win the game of life

ECR goes Digital !

Imagine having a free wifi connection at a blazing speed of 50MBPS speed while cruising along the East Coast Road of Chennai . Sounds like a distant dream and far fletched? Well the dream is about to come true very shortly

Anix Technologies  a global management and product distribution company in collaboration with ECR has been awarded a contract to provide free Wi-Fi service to all commuters.  Private ISP Network WebPass is partnering with Anix as the main licensee for providing content and an MoU was signed on April 15th this year for the same. The company added that the service will be free for customers and it will generate revenue through advertising.

Anix CMD Animesh Chaudhary also added that this Internet facility would be launched in the second half of this year, with an investment of nearly 80 crore by Anix to set up the infrastructure.

Anix has also claimed that this Wi-Fi service will ensure a 50 Mbps (3 times 4G) minimum speed to passengers devices while the maximum speed could potentially go up to 1.6 Gbps. Anix, said it already runs Wi-Fi on some PSU of India and will use a solution deployed on superfast rail networks to deliver high speed broadband internet experience.Anix said it already has significant learning’s from the pilot project on many PSU and the above could be used to leverage for this project

ISP Provider Web Pass will be building the front-end customer interface as well as the content pipe. Users across ECR will be able to experience high speed broadband by logging onto the internet via a dedicated app. This app will also display the location, approach and destination hub on a real-time basis and help navigate between different lines.

This could really be a game changer as it contributes tremendously to the digitization and further contributes to infrastructure development of the city. Meanwhile do  out this as well:What is VPN on Ipad

Other Key Attractions in ECR includes : Maplai  & Wild Tribe Ranch. Do check out my reviews here.
